On October 2, 2026, one faculty member and seven students from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) visited Shimane University through the Sakura Science Program, an international youth science exchange initiative implemented by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
During the courtesy visit, President Hiroshi Otani delivered a welcome address, followed by self-introductions from the participants. They shared their impressions of life at Shimane University and discussed cultural differences between Japan and India. The participants spoke about how the program has enabled them not only to engage in research activities but also to gain diverse experiences and deepen their cross-cultural understanding.
Associate Professor Hemanth Noothalapati, the principal coordinator of the program, has been actively engaged in research collaboration with IIT Delhi for several years. Shimane University students have previously visited IIT Delhi as part of an internship program, and it is expected that this program will further strengthen academic and student exchanges between the two universities.
On September 25, 2026, the guests participated in a campus tour organized by the Shimadai Ambassador. The ambassadors introduced themselves and gave presentations on Shimane University and Shimane Prefecture using slides they had prepared. They then guided the guests to campus landmarks, including the University Museum and the bust of Nobel Prize winner Dr. C.V. Raman. The tour provided a lively opportunity for cultural exchange, with ambassadors and guests interacting and taking photos together throughout the visit.
