Indian Delegation under the JST Sakura Science Program Paid a Courtesy Visit to President Otani

On Monday, December 15, 2025, a delegation from India paid a courtesy visit to President Otani of Shimane University. The delegation consisted of seven faculty members and students specializing in mathematics from SRM University, Andhra Pradesh, the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Berhampur, and Rangapara College. Their visit was made possible through the adoption of Prof. Miho Aoki’s project from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Interdisciplinary Faculty of Science and Engineering, under the JST Sakura Science Program. The project was jointly implemented with Prof. Yasuhiro Kishi of Aichi University of Education and spanned ten days from December 11 to 20. The first four days were hosted at Aichi University of Education, followed by six days at Shimane University, focusing on research exchanges on unsolved problems in number theory and its applications to other fields.

Upon arriving in Shimane from Aichi, the group showed no signs of fatigue from their long journey and attended the courtesy visit with warm smiles. President Otani extended words of welcome, introduced the distinctive features of Shimane University as well as the historical and cultural attractions of Matsue and Izumo, and expressed his hope that this visit would serve as a catalyst for further advancement of collaborative research.

Prof. Kalyan Chakraborty of SRM University, Andhra Pradesh, conveyed his gratitude for the invitation, while the participants visiting Japan for the first time shared their impressions of Shimane and their anticipation for the upcoming research exchanges.

During their stay, a variety of programs are scheduled, including seminars, joint workshops, and discussions aimed at building a foundation for collaborative research. Opportunities to experience Japanese culture will also be provided, offering the participants valuable experiences expected to inspire future visions of academic engagement in Japan.

Following the courtesy visit, the delegation joined a campus tour guided by Shimane University Ambassador, visiting the university museum ASHIKARU, the University library, and the coop shop.
