On November 7 (Fri), the disaster drill was conducted for residents of the International Exchange Center Matsue. A total of 26 participants took part (25 international students and 1 international researcher).
At first, participants learned from the Matsue Kita Fire Department about common causes of fires, actions to take during a fire, and earthquake preparedness. They also received an explanation from Nittan Corporation about firefighting equipment in the building.
Next, participants learned how to use fire extinguishers through an outdoor demonstration. Following this, a comprehensive drill was conducted based on a scenario of a fire starting in the kitchen, including reporting the incident, evacuation, guidance, and safety confirmation.
As the final section of the drill, participants experienced the shaking aboard the earthquake simulation truck. They felt shaking equivalent to a maximum seismic intensity of 7 firsthand, reaffirming the terrifying nature of earthquakes.
The Matsue Kita Fire Department provided feedback, stating, “We hope you will live safely in Japan with an awareness of preparing for fires and earthquakes.” This training proved beneficial for future disaster prevention measures.
