On November 15, 2025, the 4th Japan-India Universities Forum was held at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH), organized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). From Shimane University, Prof. Otani Hiroki, President and Dr. Hemanth Noothalapati, Deputy Director of International Center attended the forum marking Shimane University’s second consecutive participation in this important annual event.
The Forum, themed “Accelerating Japan-India Talent Circulation in science and technology collaboration,” brought together leading universities and research institutions from both countries. Following the opening ceremony and networking lunch, participants divided into thematic roundtable meetings. Shimane University was a part of Materials Science roundtable, which gathered leaders from major Japanese and Indian institutions. The discussion included the President of National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), the President of Nagoya University and President Otani University on the Japanese side together with representatives from several IITs and other prominent Indian research institutions. The group engaged in an in-depth exchange on how material science research can contribute to sustainable societies and how international collaboration can accelerate these efforts. The meeting served as a valuable platform for building connections and identifying long-term directions for joint initiatives.

Subsequently, Shimane University held individual 25-minute meetings with three Indian universities to explore concrete pathways for academic and research collaboration.
During the closing ceremony, President Otani delivered remarks on behalf of all participating Japanese Universities, expressing deep gratitude for the opportunity to participate and reaffirming the shared commitment of Japan and India to nurturing the next generation of young minds who will contribute to a better world.
