Shimane University International Center held a 12-day “Overseas Training Program in the Chinese-Speaking Region (Taiwan/Taipei)” from September 15 to 26. This program, conducted with the cooperation of our partner institution University of Taipei, aims to provide foundational Chinese language learning while exploring Taiwan's history and culture through visits and tours across the island. Nine students from our university participated.
At University of Taipei, participants attended Chinese language lectures alongside lectures and experiential workshops on Chinese-speaking cultures. Extracurricular activities included visits to Taipei's historical sites such as the National Palace Museum and the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, as well as a day trip to Yilan County, making for a packed schedule. Throughout the program, University of Taipei students provided daily life support, fostering active student-to-student exchanges.
On the 16th, our Vice President Yoshimi Kataoka, who led the delegation, met with University of Taipei President Qiu Yinghao to discuss future exchange opportunities between the two universities.
At the debriefing session held after their return, students shared that they felt cultural differences between Japan and Taiwan not only in cultural heritage but also in everyday aspects like food and the atmosphere of the city. They also mentioned that although they felt anxious at first, the kind support from University of Taipei staff and other local people enabled them to engage in extensive exchanges. The students vividly recounted their experiences, clearly demonstrating how fulfilling the training program had been.
We will continue to deepen cooperation with our partner universities and further enhance international exchange activities through initiatives like this one.

(We did strength training as part of the class.)
