From Monday, June 16 to Friday, June 20, 2025, we held “SU Study Abroad Week.” The purpose of this event was to widely disseminate information about our university's overseas study abroad programs and short-term overseas training programs, encourage students to consider overseas study and international exchange early on after enrollment, and increase the number of Japanese students traveling abroad.
During the week, various activities were conducted almost daily, including exchanges with international students, exhibitions on study abroad information, events organized by each faculty, center, library, and the Shimane University Cooperative, as well as pre- and post-event activities spanning the week before and after the main event.
This year, a study group from the University of Arkansas visited Shimane University after two years, participating in activities such as a “Walking Tour of the City with Shimane University Ambassadors” and exchanges with Shimane University students on the theme of “What Do You Like About Japan?”
Events related to study abroad and intercultural cohesion, with themes such as Brazil and India, were also held. Participants commented that they enjoyed learning about cultures they would not normally experience and that it was good to have the opportunity to interact with international students, as such opportunities are rare.
The Foreign Language Education Center Workstation moved to Building 3 of the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences in mid-June and was renamed the “Foreign Language Education Center Global Hub.” Various events were immediately held using the new facilities.
In a questionnaire of participants in the SU Study Abroad Week, many respondents indicated that their interest in international exchange and study abroad had increased.
Our university supports the increasing number of Japanese students traveling abroad by offering its own scholarship programs and diverse overseas training.
