On February 12, 2025, eight esteemed guests from Pusan National University (Korea), invited though the Japan Science and Technology Agency(JST) "Sakura Science Program”, paid a courtesy visit to President Otani.
This program, which Prof. Yasuhisa Saito, from the Interdisciplinary Faculty of Science and Engineering was selected for, is being carried out from February 10 to February 16, with the theme of "Research and Cultural Exchange in Mathematical Sciences between Students of Pusan National University and Shimane University."
Our university has had exchanges with Pusan National University for several years through this program, and President Otani expressed his pleasure at being able to welcome the delegation again this year. Prof. KIM HYUN-MIN of Pusan National University conveyed his hope that the exchange between both universities would continue for many years. The students, visiting Shimane Prefecture for the first time, expressed their gratitude for the invaluable exchange opportunity provided by the Sakura Science Program and eagerly anticipated the workshops and Japanese cultural experiences planned during their stay.
While two universities had previously established department-level exchange agreements, a new university-level exchange agreement was signed this year. This agreement enables us to welcome students who come to Shimane University through this program as exchange students in the near future, and it is expected that broader exchanges between two universities will become even more active.

On February 13, a university introduction was conducted by the student group "Shimadai Ambassador," which promotes the attractiveness of Shimane University. After the slide presentation, the group toured various facilities, including the cafeteria, co-op shop, the Next Generation Tatara Co-creation Centre (NEXTA), and the Shimane University Museum ASHIKARU. Although the tour lasted only about an hour, the students got to know each other well, exchanging questions about their student lives, and teaching each other simple Japanese and Korean phrases. In the end, they exchanged social media information and bid each other a fond farewell. We hope that the delegation from Pusan National University enjoys their stay in Matsue.
