On December 17, 2024, guests from the Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University (Thailand), invited by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) "SAKURA SCIENCE Exchange Program," paid a courtesy visit to President Otani.
This program was supported by the Sakura Science Program, which was planned by Prof. Seto Kazuki, from the Education and Research Center for Mathematical and Data Science at Shimane University. Under the theme of “Joint research and cultural exchange with education-related universities in Thailand on mathematics, data science, and AI education,” the program will take place from December 16 to 22.
First, President Otani gave a welcome speech to invitees and expressed his hope that they would become bridges between Japan and Thailand in the future and play a leading role in the development of education, science and technology in both countries through the joint workshop on their specialized fields scheduled during their stay in Japan. Prof. NANTAPORN, who had visited Japan for the SAKURA SCIENCE Exchange Program when she was a student herself, expressed her gratitude and happiness for the opportunity to have her students participate in the program.
For the students, this was their first visit to Japan, and for some it was their first trip abroad. They introduced themselves one by one and said they are looking forward to the workshops and cultural exchange.
We hope that this visit will be a catalyst for further joint research and student exchanges between the two universities.

Prior to the courtesy visit, the Shimadai Ambassador gave an introduction to the Shimane University. After a slide presentation, the group walked around the campus together and visited the Co-op shop and the cafeteria. Some of the invitees were surprised to find hot drinks available at the store. They also talked about each other's campus life and the stores they would like to visit during their stay. Although it was cold and unfortunately cloudy, we hope that the cold winter in Japan will be a good experience for the invitees.
