On November 21, 2024, the invitees from the Tribhuvan University (Nepal), invited by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) "SAKURA SCIENCE Exchange Program," paid a courtesy visit to President Otani.
Shimane University and Tribhuvan University have maintained an active research exchange in the field of geology and natural disasters for more than 30 years. This program was supported by the Sakura Science Program, which was planned by Prof.Sakai Tetsuya, from the Interdisciplinary Faculty of Science and Engineering at Shimane University. Under the theme of “The Exchange program for geology and geotourism utilizing the Shimane Peninsula and Shinjiko Nakaumi Estuary Geopark,” the program will take place from November 19 to 25.
After a welcome speech by President Otani, the invitees introduced themselves one by one. Many of the students, who were visiting Japan for the first time, commented that they were surprised at the difference in the natural features between Nepal and Japan. Prof. Sakai explained the difference in elevation, which is a characteristic of Nepal's land area. He also introduced that the invitees came from various regions of the country.
We hope that this visit will be a catalyst for further research and student exchange between the two universities.
