The purpose of this program was to study the history and culture of Japan and Shimane through visits to various places in Shimane Prefecture while learning basic Japanese at Shimane University.

During the program, the students from University of Arkansas attended Japanese language lectures in the mornings, and in the afternoons they visited cultural facilities in Shimane Prefecture, such as Matsue Castle, Adachi Museum of Art, and Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine, as well as experiencing Japanese sweets making and visiting high school in Shimane Prefecture to deepen their understanding of the Japanese language and Japanese culture. They also participated in a campus tour by the Shimadai Ambassador and had lunch and free time with their Conversation Partners from Shimane University, where they actively engaged in voluntary exchanges with Shimane University students.

They also paid a courtesy visit to Vice President Otani on the 8th and President Hattori on the 15th.They introduced themselves in Japanese, and Kile Harvey, a student representative from the University of Arkansas, said, "I was looking forward to coming to Japan and learning Japanese. I look forward to having many experiences at Shimane University," he said in Japanese.

At the farewell party on the 21st, the Conversation Partners gave a quiz about Shimane University and Shimane Prefecture, and the students from University of Arkansan gave a quiz about the University of Arkansas in Japanese. The quiz included information about their experiences during the program, facilities they visited, and each other's universities. They enjoyed the quiz with the Conversation Partners while reflecting on their memories.

Associate Professor Tatsuya Fukushima of the University of Arkansas told the students that he hoped they would continue to communicate with each other after the program ended.

Through these activities, we will continue to deepen our partnerships with partner universities and international exchange activities.
