From February 14th to 25th, the International Center held its Spring Program AY 2021 online with one of Shimane University’s partner universities, Chiang Mai University in Thailand. This program was called “SDGs for Beginners” and ten students from four different faculties participated. Due to the infectious spread of COVID-19, the program was held online for a second time this academic year.
The program included lectures on SDGs, discussions about SDGs in English, and exchange activities with Chiang Mai University students. Students received group-work and gave presentations during the discussion sessions. They listened carefully during the lectures and also enjoyed conversations with Chiang Mai University students at the end of the day.
After the two-week program, participants made comments such as, “It was a good experience to learn English and about the SDGs," and "Although I didn’t have confidence in my English and had hardly any base knowledge of SDGs, I enjoyed this program because the teachers were very kind during the instruction.” These comments show how each of the participants learned intensively and satisfactorily within such a short period as two weeks.
Through this program, Shimane University was able to promote further exchange activities with Chiang Mai University. Shimane University will utilize these types of online programs even during COVID-19 and provide its students many opportunities to develop a more global perspective.
