On February 9, the International Center at Shimane University participated in the AY2021 Second Online South America Japan Education Fair sponsored by Tsukuba University. Approximately 2,400 students from twelve countries, such as Brazil, Peru and Colombia, joined the event, and fifteen educational institutions were on stand-by to field questions at their online booths. At this year’s event, the institutions were separated into three different categories according to student demand: Technology, Engineering, and Business and Art. Shimane University was registered under the Engineering category along with five others.
At this fair, 154 students visited Shimane University’s introductory page, and the International Center directly answered questions for thirty-three people over audio and video chat. Fourteen students clicked on the “Leads” button, and their questions were answered via the chat box function. Many asked about admission information (EJU, etc.), scholarships, English language proficiency tests, Japanese language proficiency tests (JLPT, etc.), specific fields of study, and the English-Japanese Bilingual Education Course. From the time the event started until it ended, students continually visited Shimane University’s booth to get their questions answered.
Through the online fair, South American students became interested in studying at Shimane University, and the International Center was able to provide detailed information. This fair was an opportunity for students who want to study in Japan, and the university hopes that this leads to increased enrollment.
