On September 10th, the International Center at Shimane University concluded a partnership with the University of São Paulo, FFLCH, in July 2020. With this partnership, the International Center held an online exchange meeting involving three professors from the University of São Paulo, FFLCH, and eight professors from Shimane University’s Faculty of Law and Literature.

After the participants introduced themselves to each other, they realized that there are some connections in their research; international law, international economics, foreigner social security, Japanese language, and Japanese literature.  Next, the conversation moved on to topics such as the possibility of future research exchanges and questions the participants wanted to ask each other.

To discuss the possibility of future joint research, joint article collaboration, and joint projects, professors sent each other research article websites with search functions. Moreover, they discussed how Brazilian children could study at Shimane University and subsequently study abroad at the University of São Paulo in the future because many Brazilians live in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture. Opinions were exchanged on ways for the local community in Shimane to become interested in the university’s work. One suggestion was to have the local media broadcast and write about ongoing research at Shimane University.

This exchange was a major step toward future research exchanges, exchange programs, and the establishment of a graduate school double degree program between the University of São Paulo and Shimane University.
