On March 8th, the Center for International Exchanges at Shimane University held an Indonesia Online International Student Fair. Eight high school students, fifteen university students, and four professors joined this event, totalling twenty-seven participants.
This fair was held to get attract foreign students and expand the alumni association activities. A professor at Shimane University explained and answered several questions about scholarships, university life, and the location of Shimane. Also introduced were the Bilingual Education Course in the Interdisciplinary Faculty of Science and Engineering, the course in English in the graduate school, and the faculties and departments offered in Japanese. During the second half, an international student at Shimane University gave a presentation in Indonesian. Later during the question and answer session, there were questions about scholarships, how to collect information, Japanese language skills, and also an enthusiastic comment: “I’d like to go to Shimane University because my father is an alumni of Shimane University.”
The International Center was able to hold the Online International Student Fair through a web conferencing system during the pandemic. Shimane University will promote international exchange events and distribute information to international students as much as possible in preparation for a post-COVID-19 world.
