On May 18th, the International Center held its 1st USA Online Cafe for the academic year of 2021. Four students from the University of Arkansas, one of Shimane University’s international partners, and seven students from Shimane University collaborated and engaged in an exchange through the main topic of how life has changed after starting university.

Students introduced to each other how their daily lives have changed. They had some common points, such as difficulty in scheduling classes, and having to wake up early, and they also recognized the differences between both countries. For example, studying after enrolling in university is harder in the United States, but studying to get into university is more important in Japan. Students exchanged their opinions about this topic with interest. After that, students had lively conversations, such as learning foreign languages, pets being a source of relaxation during the pandemic, and sports they like to play.

The International Center will actively hold these kinds of online seminars for the purpose of student exchange for Shimane University students who want to study abroad and to express the attractiveness of studying abroad in Japan and at Shimane University.
