Award Ceremony for Shimane University World Dishes Contest

   On December 11th, 2020, the Shimane University Center for International Exchange and the Center for Foreign Language Education jointly held an award ceremony for the best dish of the Shimane University World Dishes Contest.

   This contest was held with the aim of promoting international exchange through food, and teams led by international students belonging to Shimane University submitted their best dishes. The screening to determine the Grand Prix was decided not only by on-campus judges, but also online by faculty members, students, and public voters.

   The winning dish of the contest was Tabete Bikkuri (You’d be surprised to eat) Soto Ayam (Chicken Soup), devised by WE ARE THE WORLD♡, a three-person team consisting of students from Indonesia, China, and Japan. Soto Ayam is an Indonesian dish and is a delicious soup containing chicken, vermicelli and many vegetables. To enter the contest, the team arranged the recipe so that the dish could be easily cooked with ingredients that are readily available in Japan, and the recipe was highly popular among many people.

   At the ceremony, Vice President Dr. DEGUCHI Akira said, "As is it starting to get colder, I would like to have Soto Ayam to warm up." Mr. KOGA, the manager of the Shimane University Co-op Cafeteria, gave his impressions about the dish and announced that the dish would be added to the menu at the cafeteria for a limited time.

   Although it was the first time this contest was held, a large number of people voted. Shimane University would like to express its sincere gratitude to everyone who cooperated.

   The Center for International Exchange will continue to carry out various kinds of activities to promote exchange between international students, Japanese students, the university, and the local community.

   Tabete Bikkuri Soto Ayam, which won the Grand Prix at the contest, will be on the menu at the Shimane University Co-op Cafeteria for one week, from December 21st to 25th. Shimane University hopes that everyone will try and enjoy this dish.
