On September 26, 2024, Dean Liu Shouying, Vice Dean Li Yong, Professor Hu Xia, and three students from Renmin University of China, School of Economics, which has an agreement of cooperation with our university, paid a courtesy visit to President Otani.
Since the signing of the Agreement in 2005, both universities have continued their exchanged through a student exchange program led by Prof. Seki, faculty of Law and Literature. This year, it was our university’s turn to host, and prior to the courtesy visit, the delegation stayed in Ama-cho on Oki Island for three days with our students, conducting field research and exchanging opinions.
First, President Otani expressed his pleasure that the long-standing exchange between the two universities has greatly contributed promoting international understanding among students, and he delivered a welcome address. Next, Prof. Asada, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Literature, expressed his hope that the visitors would appreciate the calm atmosphere of Shimane University, which is located away from urban areas, expressed his expectation for continued exchanges in the future.
Dean Liu Shouying expressed gratitude for the reception. He also mentioned that the training in Ama-cho was very meaningful and stated his desire to continue such active exchanges in the future to raise awareness of rural revitalization among the younger generation.
Three students each shared their impressions of Japan and their experiences during their stay. They said, “By staying in a large group in one room, I made many Japanese friends. I hope to meet them in Beijing next year.”
It was a very meaningful visit, and further deepening of exchanges between the two universities is expected in the future.
