Introducing Japanese Culture to Junior High School Students in India as Environmental Measures

公開日 2020年01月08日

On December 7th, Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Dr. MUTO Ai, currently dispatched to Shimane University partner institution Cochin University of Science and Technology (Kerala State, India), held a workshop to introduce Japanese culture. This workshop was hosted by Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education, a government organization based in the same state.
With the ban on plastic products scheduled in India from 2020, the workshop targeted local junior high school students in order to raise awareness of environmental issues. Dr. Muto generated interest in environmental issues and Japanese culture by teaching students how to use Japanese furoshiki (a cloth used to wrap up items), which can be used as a substitute for plastic bags, and how to make a trash can made of newspaper.
Shimane University will actively cooperate in international exchange between the two countries in the field of science and technology, and contribute to the SDGs by participating in initiatives of overseas institutions such as this.
