Shimane University Matsue International House held a disaster drill on November 29. 17 residents and a Japanese tutor joined the drill.
During the drill, students first learned the cause of fire accidents and how to act in the event of fire in the lecture given by Matsue Kita Fire Department. Later, they actually made a 119 emergency call and got a training of initial firefighting. Then, they also did comprehensive drill including emergency reporting, evacuation, evacuation guidance and safety confirmation on the assumption that fire might break out in kitchen.
Following the fire drill, a drill assuming an earthquake was conducted. Students learned some basic information about an earthquake as well as how to protect themselves when it occurs. Later, they had a chance to experience the tremor on an earthquake simulation vehicle. Some of the students never experienced an earthquake before and were deeply alarmed by the tremendous shaking. After the training, they realized the difficulty to act calmly in the event of disaster.
The drill became a good opportunity to all the participants giving a basic knowledge about the disaster prevention as well as being more conscious on disaster preparedness.
