Shimane University is currently holding the monthly event titled “SU Global Month” to stimulate the university globalization as well as global minds among students, faculty members and staff. As a part of the event, students of Fumai School Tea Ceremony Club and Kendo Club held the trial for international students.

On 15 November, Fumai School Tea Ceremony Club welcomed international students. Fumai School is one of the tea schools which is originated in Matsue where Shimane University Matsue campus is located. Participants were served green tea and wagashi Japanese confectionary and learnt on how to use the tea ceremony utensils. Later, they enjoyed making a tea by themselves following the instructions by club members. On 21 November, Kendo Club held the trial session. International students first put on endo wear with the help of club members, and later joined the training of suburi (swing practice) and actual striking against armed club members. Both international students and club members looked nervous at first, but gradually they were opening up to each other and enjoyed international exchange.

Participants made comments such as; "It seemed to be easy but in fact was difficult", "Great experience. Instructor and club members were all so kind" and "I would like to join the trial again if I was given another chance".

The trial for international students are organized twice by each club and many international
students are interested to join. Organizing this kind of event will promote international exchange activities on campus.
