The Center for International Exchanges held its Summer Program in China from September 1st to 8th in Nanjing, Suzhou and Shanghai. Eight students including 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students participated in this summer program.
Shimane University has organized several programs focusing on the Chinese language and culture. This year, the renewed program “Discovering China of our time –History, Culture and more-” with the purpose of understanding Chinese society and culture, knowing the daily lives to broaden the student’s global perspective. Participants joined the lectures at Nanjing University, followed by the student exchange activity with the students of Japanese study course at Nanjing Forestry University. All students from Japan and those in China found what they have in common regardless of their nationality, stimulating their individual motivation to study abroad. Participants also experienced the traditional culture both in Nanjing and Suzhou and felt the modernity of Chinese society in urban Shanghai. They also joined the discussion with the Japanese of the Nanjing-based Japanese company. Through the discussion, our students got better understanding on working and living in China.
By organizing these kinds of programs outside Japan to experience the intercultural communication, Shimane University will continue to enhance its international exchanges and provide the university’s students many opportunities to raise their international interests and develop their global minds.
