‘Shimane Transborder Meetup in Matsue’ was held in 3 August 2018. It aimed to promote international students to understand local industries in Matsue, Shimane and communicate with local companies. It was hosted by the Centre for International Exchanges of Shimane University and Ms Yumiko Yoshizawa, CEO of the H&C Branding Management Co., Ltd. (Matsue & Tokyo). Approximately 20 students, both undergraduates and postgraduates, participated.
The event began with a lecture on industries in Shimane by Mr Masato Shimote, President of the Daisho Co., Ltd., a corrugated box manufacturer located in Matsue. It was followed by a speech on Japanese-style of job-hunting and life in Matsue from a international student’s viewpoint by two Vietnamese students, Ms Nguyen Thi Huyen (Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences) and Ms Do Thi Hue (Faculty of Law and Literature). In the latter part of the event shaved ice and cold drinks were served. With refreshing cold snacks, the participants, both from the University and local business communities, had a talk on job-hunting and career development under open-minded atmosphere.
