His Excellency Mr. Thanatip Upatising, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kingdom of Thailand and Ms. Upatising, Mr. Salil Wisalswadi, Minister of Thailand Board of Investment and their party made a courtesy call on our University, accompanied by a party of Mr. Nagaoka, chief advisor at the Department of Commerce, Industry and Labor, Shimane local government.
Attendees from Shimane University are as follows, namely President Kobayashi, Dr. Shiwaku, Vice president for planning and General affairs, Dr. Takeuchi, Vice president for Academic and International Affairs, Dr. Otani, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Arase, Dean of Faculty of Life and Environmental Science, Dr. Hattori, Dean of Interdisciplinary Faculty of Science and Engineering, Dr. Ando, Director of Center for International Exchanges and Mr. Omura, Secretary General of Academic and International Department with the staff of the Center of the International Exchange Division.

After presenting an address of welcome by President Kobayashi, the ambassador emphasized the importance of the exchanges between Thailand and Japan. He also stated that a relative of his own had graduated from our University, and he had eagerness to have researchers and students in Thailand acquire the chance to carry on their study at our University. In reply we informed the ambassador that the number of the students from Thailand is no more than about two so far, however, we concluded the academic exchange agreements in September 2014 with four institutions of learning in Thailand (Thammasat University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Princess Chulabhorn’s College Pathumthani, Hanamaru Japanese Language School), and that we had our positive intention to receive researchers and students from Thailand.
The ambassador clarified his expectation for our University’s contribution to the promotion of academic research and the development of human resources in Thailand, and we expressed our sheer approval to that. We are sincerely thinking of going ahead with the academic exchanges between Thailand and Japan.
